Cats and Fleas
When welcoming this feline into your home it is hard to believe that they could be suffering with fleas. A kitten may have aquired fleas from their original environment and so it is not uncommon for them to bring them into your home when they intially come to live with you. For example, if the mother cat had fleas, then there’s a huge possibility that all the kittens will have fleas. Of course fleas could have been brought in by any other pets, even though the mother cat didn’t leave the house. Humans are more than capable of bringing in fleas on their clothes and feet.
One of the most important tools to own is a flea comb. Once home, take your kitten to the bathroom and run a flea comb through its coat whilst reassuring it. Look carefully behing the ears and at the base of the tail as these are particular haunts for fleas. One is all that is required to ascertain that this issue needs addessing.
In your kitty grooming box, you should have picked up something that will both kill off the fleas, and be safe for a newborn kitten.Check the instructions, and have the product ready in case you find a flea on your new introduction. Remember that the kitten is already going to be feeling very insecure at this point, and so you must keep talking gentle to him and not frighten him more than necessary. It’s much better if you can do this on your own without any other family members/pets in the room so as to keep the environment calm. Once your kitten is finally clean, it can meet the remainder of the family, though you shouldn’t allow it back into its carrier or anything it has had previous contact with. Every item must be properly cleaned prior to returning them.
More often than not your kitten will arrive flealess, though by preparing for the worse you can avoid a potentially big job.
